| ______________________________________________________________________ SAILING AND THEORY Theory (fun, informative and practical sessions) - Thursday Evening 7.30-9.00pm Sailing - Sunday ( times dependant on the tide) The Adur Centre Sailing Club runs regular courses covering most areas within the R.Y.A Youth Sailing and National Sailing Schemes. The Adur Centre Sailing Club also aims to provide different oppportunities for all, i.e. sailing up river to Cuckoo's Corner and also out to sea. More experienced sailors may also take part in WSSYSA (West Sussex Schools and Youth Sailing Association) regattas. NEW MEMBERS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME Call in any Thursday Evening. | RYA YOUTH SAILING SCHEME Start Sailing Awards (Stages 1 and 2) The aim of these awards is to provide an introduction to the sport of dinghy sailing in two easy steps. By the end of the two stages you will be safety conscious and able to sail a dinghy in light winds. Sailing Awards (Stages 3 and 4) The aim of these awards is to further develop the basic skills, cover the traditional skills of boat handling and seamanship, and to provide the practical skills and background knowledge needed for independant dinghy sailing. By the end of the course you should be confident, safe, have a seamanlike approach and be capable of handling a sailing dinghy in strong winds. The National Scheme follows the young Sailors Scheme for people wishing to further develop their skills. ______________________________________________________________________

| RYA NATIONAL SAILING SCHEME Start Sailing Level 1 - Getting Afloat An Introduction to the sport, covering the minimum knowledge required to get afloat under supervision. Basic Skills Level 2 - The Foundations Of The Sport Becoming a competant sailor in light winds.
Developing your sailing can then be done through the following courses: Seamanship Skills - Sail Independantly How to Handle the boat in all circumstances and solve problems afloat. Day Sailing - Go Cruising Passage planning and decision making for small boat cruising. Sailing With Spinnakers - Kites Course Everything you need to know to sail modern three-sail boats. Start Racing - Go Club Racing The start line for enjoying club racing. All you need to know to get round the course. Performance Sailing - Get Coached And Sail Better. Improve your boat handling and confidence in performance boats. ACSC can award Level 1 and 2, Seamanship, Day Sailing and Sailing with spinnakers certificates only from the National Scheme. ______________________________________________________________________ |
